I believe it's off to HKG but for Maintenance. So they might as well operate a commercial service too! :)

Thank You! Why do You think they aren't operating a return HKG-SYD? Will they just ferry it back to SYD once its finished maintanence?

If you ask me, they'd probably find a quiet day to cancel QF5 SYD-SIN while ferrying the aircraft to SIN to do QF6 SIN-SYD.
Either that, or cancel a BNE-HKG flight on a quiet day.

QF129/QF130 has been operated by 744's for a couple of days in the past two weeks for the Chinese/Lunar New Year traffic.
I now think QF87 could also be an extra service for the Chinese/Lunar New Year traffic as QF87/QF88 operated on the 18th & 19th of Feb too! Though with the absence of a return flight (QF88) this does look to be a commercial positioning flight for maintenance.
I guess we'll find out soon! I'll keep you posted.

The flight was/has been delayed to 7:20pm this evening. I wonder why?

Why would they do maintenance in HKG and not in Brisbane?

Brisbane only does A330 and Boeing 737 Maintenace. The 747 maintenance was outsourced to HAECO in HKG since the closure of Avalon.
All A380 and Boeing 747 heavy maintenace is done offshore.

Am I right the A380s will also go to HKG when the time comes?
