It appears that QANTAS are flying the A380 again SYD-HKG, booked in to fly to HKG on 3/4, the aircraft changed from B747 to A380, hoping they keep that. Wondering what happens to their First Class, as First Class fares still doesn't exist when booking.

I was booked on a number of the SYD-HKG flights late last year that originally were supposed to be operated by 747's but then got swapped to A380's. Good to see them using newer aircraft on this sector although nothing beats the magic of a 747 ;) Funnily enough I am also booked on that April 3 flight that You are on! What class are You in?

Qantas will go where the money is. Melbourne just isn't much of a cash-cow like Sydney, and there's nothing we can do about it. Have to deal with Sydney but at least they show some love to other cities unlike other airlines which operate a one-off international hub.

I asked a friend at Qantas some time ago and apparently it's seasonal. It's Easter that weekend and the Rugby 7s the weekend prior, so I'm assuming that constitutes peak?

Qantas returned an A380 to HKG flights for the mid-December to end-January seasonal peak, and as this earlier AusBT report shows, for the current Chinese New Year period. Extra flights for Easter & Rugby 7s would make sense. Presumably this is achieved by careful scheduling of major maintenance on the fleet so that a 'spare' A380 can be used for QF127 & 128 at peak times.

QF announced this in January:
To cater for strong demand during March and April, Qantas has published upgraded daily services between Sydney and Hong Kong on an A380 aircraft.
Effective for services on the following dates, QF127/128 (Sydney-Hong Kong) will be upgraded from a reconfigured B747 aircraft to an A380 aircraft.
QF127/128 SYD – HKG
This follows the recent upgrade to an A380 to support additional capacity requirements for services over the Chinese New Year including 14 and 15 February 2015, and 27 February to 2 March 2015 inclusive.
Qantas operates 21 return services per week between Australia and Hong Kong, on a mix of reconfigured B747, A380 and A330 aircraft.
In relation to the OP, QF don't sell First to HKG. High status holding passengers travelling in J may be seated in First getting business service.
