Update by points vs update via auction. Does it work together or I have to make my mind what I like to use upfront? Is it possible to put request for upgrade by points and if unsuccessful try bidding or points upgrade uncertain to last minute? Anyone can put some light on matter? Thanks.
Sorry not to make it clear - I am QFF member, so it Qantas and as such it can be only Qantas metal and Qantas ticket. I intend to bid DXB-MEL early in July.
Yeh so you have the two options but both are only possible on Full Fare economy tickets
The Upgrade by points comes first before the Upgrade by Auction
So the order goes
Free Upgrades for Chairman Lounges Members -> Classics Points Upgrades from Plat One to Bronze members -> Upgrade by Auction
If you have to points you would be best to do a Classic Upgrade by points and when you put that upgrade in you will not be able to do the auction upgrade which is only sent (by email) to certian pax on the flight
Thanks for replay. My status is nothing excited - i.e. Bronze. I am aware about impossibility to upgrade from heavily discount economy and I know that my ticket permits classic upgrade. But how it sounds I should not worry about auction upgrade if I have sufficient points for classic upgrade because they fill all classic upgrade before start auction or I missed something?

yeh thats correct
if you have the points then do the classic upgrade
You say you're traveling in early july which I think is school holidays so your chances of upgrading will be slim
