Electrical storm, thats always the excuse blabered on the PA in the QPd at Sydney Airport.
When ever there is a rain stomr, its electrical, and for a few mins, flights are said to be delayed.
Trouble is esp for flights to NZ by QF, any delays of planes dep SYD will be late into NZ, and thus flights from NZ back to Aust will thus also be delayed.

Why wouldn't there be delays?
High winds, torrential rain, other basic transport infrastructure affected...Surely any reasonable person travelling ex-Sydney or into Sydney would expect distruptions. And as we all know, delays or disruptions in Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne have significant knock-on effects across the rest of the domestic and international networks for most if not all carriers.
