Hi everyone.

Travelling SYD-RIO - does anyone have any thoughts on getting there in such a way as to earn VA SCs? (Without transiting through USA!).

I think the only way would be with DL (But that's via USA (And 2 stops)).

Ta!

Apart from QF there are no single stop options.

Once Air NZ starts flying to BA that will be an option, and I understand they will be codesharing with VA. However, that will be 2 stops still.

EY can get you to Sao Paulo in one stop. Not sure whether VA passengers earn status on EY???

Yep, Velocity FFs earn status credits on Etihad whenever travelling on a VA or EY flight number.

You could take the new Etihad A380 service to Abu Dhabi which connects on to their Sao Paolo flight. If you connect in Sao Paolo with Avianca you can earn velocity points via KrisFlyer. Otherwise via LA and on to Delta is still a good option. I went from Bris to Rio via LA last year and it actually worked out really well, enjoy your trip!

You can fly with South African to Sao Paulo via Perth and Johannesburg since the parnership has started so now you can get earn Status Credits and FF points, obviously EY is a better option but the SA option is also there.

Thanks guys - appreciate the input.

Oh of course! Air NZ now fly to EZE. So potentially can fly SYD-AKL-EZE then connect there EZE-RIO. Boom!

Cheers guys!
