Best Hotel rewards chain for Gold level perks? I travel for work 3-5 times per year, often for a few days at a time. Until recently I would stay at different large hotels just to try them out. I'm currently halfway to IHG Gold but also have SPG, HHonours and Hyatt points. I am just wonderin which chain tends to give better rewards, and is most likely to upgrade your room at Gold level.
I personally focus on Accor and SPG and only use Hilton or IHG as a last resort.
Of the two I prefer SPG as I can redeem Starwood points at the Sherton Gold Coast resort so the points accumulated over a year pays for a few days away with family.
From memory I would be offered a room upgrade 3 out of every 5 stays with SPG.
I get Platinum status with Accor with my Amex card and room upgrades happen close to 100% of the time.
If by 'Gold Level' you mean the mid level status (given that Hyatt starts off at Gold), then my own experience is that the best perk (upgrades etc) are with Hilton, followed by Accor. The thing that tips it for me, is that at Hilton you can generally swing a breakfast of some sort at Gold level - the other chains, less so.
If you talk about top level status, then things would change around a bit in preference terms.
Shangri-La Golden Circle is good, but limited options is staying outside of Asia or Sydney. At least 50% upgraded & free breakfast for two guests. Also offer welcome drinks/snacks etc.
Hyatt Gold Passport all the way. Always get upgraded, free Wifi and in room min bar privlidges. Also last time I was at the Grand Hyatt New York I got complimentry airport pick up and return services as well as a welcome champaign and a fruit basket :-)

Is that the mid-tier level Martin (after 5 stays), or the higher level? If the former that is great news, as I just qualified!
