PER-JNB. looking at booking PER-JNB for xmas, ideally on QF as QFF plat, but there doesn't seem to be an EK option going via DXB only QF metal via SYD which is the wrong way. Has QF removed this option?
QR has an reasonable fare but the points are pretty rubbish (flying Y)..maybe ill fly MK or SAA .....thoughts?
I used to fly PER-JNB with South African regularly under the QF codeshare. I tried the EK option recently and it just added too much time and I've since gone back to SAA. In fact, I feel like their service standard as been significantly better recently and I believe the extra velocity points promotion is still in effect. I'd recommend sticking to the direct option.
An argument for Qantas to hub from Perth for its JHB flights. Let Sydney do some transitting for a change. Although the transfer from domestic to international at PER is just as annoying as SYD.
If you compare the shortest total travel times on EK and QF there is not much in it. EK is quicker geting there, QF getting back. Just have to accept that it takes 10 hours longer than it should or go with SAA or a VA codeshare. Such a shame that QF doesn't operate via Perth on a few days of the week. I am sure they would get plenty of pax from Perth and those that have to connect in Sydney should be just as happy to do so in Perth (except for the lack of a First lounge!).
