I can't seem to work this out! I can purchase 160 000 points(80+80) for $800 us. I can purchase a room, online, for 350 us which will cost me 80 000 points ie $400. Where is the advantage or am I missing something really obvious?
There may be no advantage - for this promotion it really does vary among hotels, sometimes the benefit is not there, sometimes it is marginal at best, and sometimes there may be an advantage. You can only tell by doing the numbers and seeing which way is best,
Generally no advantage, but sometimes when rates jump it makes sense. I've purchased points for a hotel stay during Oktoberfest before as it worked out to be $400/night as opposed to circa $700. Normally the room would've been $250-$300 so wouldn't have made sense...
