Flying AIR NZ long hauls, specifically on the 777-200, anyone used the sky couches, or had luck booking two of the three seats, and getting it with middle empty?

If you book and pay for the "couch" you get all three seats regardless - even if its only 1 or 2 travellers.

I have been lucky in the past and got 3 seats for two of us, but if it does happen you dont get the skycouch pack which enables you to lie down

Correct. If you haven't paid for the Skycouch, you don't get it for free onboard. If the Skycouches haven't sold out, the seats are just treated like normal ones.

Also, remember that not all 777-200 aircraft have been refitted with the Skycouch yet. This will be completed by around Nov this year.

This skycouch is most intriguing concept that I like to try. IMHO all companies should do similar.
