I have 3 j seats on qff award booking on ek and need a further seat for my 6 year old ( no more j awards left). There is an award seat in F available. Do you think I could book for my daughter and then get my wife to swap with her at the airport / or on the plane. I don't really want my 6 year old travelling alone in F! The other option is to purchase a j fare but this is $ 3500!
I could always purchase the seat and then refund it at the airport before departure if they wont allow and purchase a flexible j ticket for my daughter?
I would assume, but don't know, that there'd be some flexibility when travelling with minors in enabling you to flip around your seats so that the child isn't flying solo. Just say your travel booker thougt your daughter was your wife and should have booked you and your daughter together.
A friend of mine has swapped classes on EK during the flight so they could both enjoy J. Guess it depends on the FAs. Wouldn't be allowed on QF in a fit.
Thanks fonga, I just want to put my wife in f ( from her j seat) and my daughter in j ( from her f seat) ie a straight swap! Just dont want to turn up and be told no go!
Airlines don't normally allow it for paid seats, because a child's fare is cheaper at 75% of an adults fare on long haul journeys. But the child's discount doesn't apply to frequent flyer redemptions, so theyyr o aren't losing out. It may come down to the Duty Manager you experience on the day.
Can you even book a 6yr old into first by themselves? Many airlines would treat this booking as one for an unaccompanied minor, and would not permit them in F class to begin with.

Good problem to have!

In my experience, Emirates are very reasonable.
