Any idea on whether Virgin is going to update internet timetables with an identifier on which version of the A330 is being used on the Coast-2Coast services?

I doubt it - it's just too hard to have firm aircraft schedules that far out, and they would end up with a lot of angry passengers who were expecting a better plane than the one they got. Qantas has similar issues, you don't know if your domestic A330 flight will be flown by an international or domestic grade aircraft until you get to the gate.

I think at a minimum they could designate the intended aircraft type, like Cathay does. Upon calling Virign, the operator can tell me over the phone which type is due to fly on which flighht number. Hassle though as most bookings are now done online. Accept that aircraft can change due to operational requirements.

Virgin Australia won't be doing that, then people will target those jets with the (better) lie-flat business class seats rather than the ones with the recliner business seats. am is correct, it is really annoying when people book a better plane and end up on a older one.
Another example is Virgin Australia didn't show the 737-800 with the business class seats and the ones with the older premium economy seats. People will see that it has no more upgraded planes and fly another airline.
