How many QFF points would be needed for a buisness class upgrade on a 5 hour flight?
Im travelling from Sydney to Perth soon and from what iv seen my flight will be on the refurbished A330 and I really want to try it, I dont want to bother spending the money so I just want to know how many QFF points would be needed for an upgrade.
If anyone knows could you please tell me.

Hi GgFlyer,
The number of points required for an upgrade would depend on the fare class you booked in. If you had booked the Discount Economy (Red e-Deal) fare then you need 20,000 QFF points each way to upgrade to Business. However, if you had booked Flexible Economy (Flex) then you only need 10,000 points each way.
The number of points required can be found here: https://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/do/dyns/upgradeCalculator?from=SYD&to=PER

If discount economy to business, it'll be 20,000 points. Cost of upgrades relate to distance and booking class, not flight hours. Btw There are calculators on Qantas.com for this.

Also worth nothing that there are only 5 A330-200 refurb'd to date and planes can be subbed at any stage. So by all means go for an upgrade, but be aware of the risks.

It is correct about possibility to replace aircraft at any time, so I personally would wait for last minute to live them as least chances to replace plane as possible. However if OP does not mind to fly in old J and company purchased Flexible Economy, I personally would upgrade anyway - it is reasonable long flight and 10K not that much points.

Agree. It's a real sweet spot from flex economy to business for that sector.
Gold status holders earn 7700 points for the return trip in flex econ. A 2300 point deficet for a one way business is very good value for mine!

I fly SYD / MEL - PER quite regularly and in my experience the morning flights ex SYD / MEL have not been refurbed jets. Only once in the past 4 months or so has it been the new J.
However most of the red eyes flown back have been the new J and its well worth the upgrade especially if your company paid for the ticket!
