That would be terrific if Qantas puts B787-9 routes from Perth to Paris without stopping in Singapore or Paris! That way it would eventually become the worlds longest flight after surpassing Dubai to Panama City!
Won't happen. 787-9 does not quite have the range for PER-CDG non stop. QF have said they want daily flights into Paris. Under the current air services agreement, they can only do so with an aircraft with less then 200 seats. The 241-279 seat 787-9 would be allowed 5 weekely.
Boeing website quotes the range for 787-9 as 14,140km.
These range listings are based on average winds and Boeings recommended configuration. The moment an airlines changes that (such as putting 9 across in Y), the range changes.
On paper, 787-8's can fly SYD-SEA no problem. JQ's can't because of the way they are configured.
Any attempt to to PER-CDG with a 787-9 will have just as many issues (if not more) as running a 747-400ER on DFW-SYD.

The B789 will have a range of 15100km. Perth to Paris distance is 13800km. This will be enough to fly non stop from Perth to Paris by a B789.
