Based solely on the seat, I would go with AA due to the 1-2-1 config.

I find QF's food and wine to be very good though, as is thier service. I'm not too familiar with the OneWorld FF scheme so couldn't recommend which option would be the healthiest for ones' FF account.

It depends which frequent flyer programme you are with, which codes you're booked on (AA or QF). Ceteris paribus, it boils down to this:

AA: Eccellent J seats, excellent entertainment (wide variable content) but standard (bordering retro) F&B and variable service (some lemons who frankly need the sack).

QF: Average J seats (less privacy), average entertainment (poor content) but contemporary F&B and possibly less variable service (bad luck if you have a bitchy CSM who drags the morale down).

AA wins on hard product, QF wins on soft product.

That $1000 saving can also be used on your vacation to buy yourself some very nice pampering. Plus you'll probably be sleeping on the flight, and AA's seats are better for that.

I'd take AA, personally. Sure the food and service is much worse but the sleep, seat and savings mean you can make up for all that crappy food and crappy AA service by taking your $1000 savings and spending it on nice/r hotels/restaurants.
