Does anyone have an idea what I would expect to pay for an airport instant upgrade with eihadt from Brisbane to Abu Dhabi Econ to business? Is it worth the $?

I believe Etihad uses a PlusGrade bidding system pre flight.

Business is certainly much better than Economy, but only you can determine whether it will be good value for you.

I paid $700 AUD at the airport counter for the flight from BNE to AUH on a very cheap economy ticket. The flight was 2/3 empty in Business Class. On another occasion from SYD to AUH, I was offered an instant upgrade for $300 AUD which I declined. The price is subject to change due to different factors, therefore, the pricing isn't published. I consider the instant upgrade a last resort that you shouldn't bet on as anyone can upgrade through the bidding system, with miles, or purchasing a push upgrade 48 hours prior to departure. I think it's a nice last minute purchase if the price is right but not something to plan for in advance.

I meant $1300 AUD for the SYD to AUH flight.

I have upgraded at the airport for the long haul (SYD-AUH vv) for $700AUD on two occassions. WELL worth it in my opinion...

I was offered an Airport upgrade on Sydney - Abu Dhabi from Buisness to First for about $700 I think it was US $ though but that was 2013 when it was pretty much the same conversion.

I recently flew SYD - AHU - MUC and was offered at the airport an upgrade to First for $800 for the entire flight. EY are finiding that pax are booking an flying on the A380 ex Sydney more than its B777 services hense why the airport upgrades. Oh I flew on the B777 :-)
