Made a SYD-MEL redemption booking with Asia miles through the Marco Polo Club (CX) in J Class. How do I choose my seat?

Firstly, I gather this is a QF operated flight? If so, You should be able to use your CX booking reference on the QF manage booking page. I can see my CX booking on the QF website under my FF account so hopefully this will work for you. Just have you booking reference and last name handy and you should be able to access it

If the booking reference number (PNR) which Cathay supplied when you made the booking does not work when you enter it on Qantas' website, you can easily call Qantas to obtain the Qantas PNR (which will allow you to modify your booking online) or to have them assign seats over the phone.
Alternatively, the classic CheckMyTrip website (classic [dot] checkmytrip [dot] com) may display the Qantas PNR if it brings up your Cathay booking.

CX and QF both uses Amadeus. The PNR CX provides should also work for the QF booking and will allow you to manage your booking on the Qantas website.

True, but some Amadeus bookings still get a different PNR for each airline.
I've found this is particularly true for Qantas issued bookings with Cathay sectors. However, I'm not sure about the other way around.

Booked MEL/HKG on QF and HKG/LHR on CX as a redemption booking via AA. Same Amadeus PNR for both segments.
