Hi AusBT
I am in the process of booking a trip to the US in July of next year and was wondering when's the best time to book flights. Preferably Qantas into LAX. Also if I purchase a travel money card today/tomorrow is my US rate secure if I decide to top up before I travel? I just don't want to lose out as reading the papers the dollar will drop to .60c
Thanking you in advance.

Not during the school holidays, flights tend to spike then. But you can get some very cheap deals on Christmas day and boxing day, other wise not too sure of the best time of year to fly in.

The OP is looking at best time to book the travel, not the time to travel as states in July.
Hard to say when the best time to book is. Qantas has regular sales to the US during the year and if you can get Y for around $1100-$1200 or J for around $5000k then thats about the best price you will find.

If you use a travel mony card from a bank or use Qantas cash, the exchange rate is applied when you pay the card into credit. The funds are then available in the account in USD. If you top up the card any time later, then the exchange rate of the day applies. If you look at the Qantas Cash web site you should be able to see the current exchange rate.
