Hi James,

There is an answer to your question, but may not apply to your situation. Thai First is without disupte "the best TG lounge at BKK", but only accessible if flying First.

To better answer your question, could you advise:

  • What cabin class and airline are you travelling?
  • What is your Star Alliance membership tier level?
  • How long is your stopover / available time, and what concourse at BKK (if known) are you departing from?

Cheers,

Jay

Sorry Jay, I have stipulated this earlier. I have a 4 hr layover in BKK before flying TG 465 C class. I know TG have a few Intl lounges and have found some very crowded before. An personal preferences?

You're right, there are many int'l TG lounges in BKK, and they are confusing. So many in fact, I've just noticed a few screw-ups in my listing below! Grr..

As you're travelling TG in J/C class, you'll probably be most comfortable in a lounge which prohibits other Star Alliance customers from entering. Your best option is Royal Silk Lounge on Concourse D. The upside is that this TG's biggest lounge, so crowding "shouldn't" be an issue. Another bonus is its proximity to Royal Orchid Spa, where you can grab a massage.

The downside is that there are no showers in this lounge, which you'll probably want if you're having a 4hr layover. Might pay to pop into an adjacent lounge to use their shower facilities, and then retreat elsewhere.

Your ability to access Thai Airways (TG) lounges is based on the following eligibility criteria at BKK airport:

Royal First Lounge (Concourse D)

  • Thai First-class ONLY
  • NO Star Alliance First
  • NO Star Alliance Gold

Royal Orchid Spa (Concourse D)

  • Thai First
  • Thai Business
  • NO Star Alliance First
  • NO Star Alliance Gold

Royal Orchid Lounge (Concourse D)

  • Thai First
  • Thai Business
  • NO Star Alliance First
  • NO Star Alliance Gold

Royal Silk Lounge (Concourse C - West/"Right")

  • Thai First
  • Thai Business
  • Thai Royal Orchid Plus Platinum card
  • Star Alliance First
  • NO Star Alliance Gold

Royal Silk Lounge (Concourse C - East/"Left")

  • Thai First
  • Thai Business
  • Thai Royal Orchid Plus Platinum card
  • Star Alliance First
  • NO Star Alliance Gold

Royal Orchid Lounge (Concourse E - West/"Right")
  • Thai First-class
  • Thai Business
  • Thai Royal Orchid Plus Gold card
  • Star Alliance First
  • Star Alliance Business
  • Star Alliance Gold

Royal Silk Lounge (Concourse E - East/"Left")

  • Thai First
  • Thai Business
  • Thai Royal Orchid Plus Platinum card
  • Star Alliance First
  • NO Star Alliance Gold

In Orchid and Silk lounges which allow Thai First and Thai Business customers, there are seperate areas within the lounge exclusively for the use of First passengers.

The "NO Star Alliance Gold" is based on Thai Airways published eligibility policy, but conflicts with the Star Alliance published eligibility policy. If attempting to enter these lounges, you may be directed to the Royal Orchid Lounge, in Concourse E. If in doubt, look for the "Star Alliance Gold" status badge at the lounge entry.

If Star Alliance Gold, there is also:
  • Singapore Airlines SilverKris lounge (Concourse A)
  • EVA AIR Lounge (Concourse F)

The Royal Orchid Lounge (Concourse D) is the best Thai Lounge by fiar for C class.   Use C or E Thai Busines Lounger for Showers only.

Gunners is correct, but we've both (above) mistakenly called it Royal Orchid Lounge (Concourse D), whereas it's actually called Royal Silk Lounge (Concourse D).

Emphasis added, because you'll want to avoid the "Orchid" lounge (Concourse E): this is the one crawling with Star Alliance members.

Ive been through BKK on TG J many times. The best lounge is the SQ lounge but its a bit of a hike.
