Bussleton Airport
With BQB getting a million dollar upgrade from 2016 what are the chances of Qantas or whoever starting flights between Bussleton and the east coast, like Melbourne or Brisbane? Qantas already fly between BME to SYD, BNE and MEL and PHE to BNE & MEL and VA have flights between KGI and Melbourne so flights between regional WA and the east coast are not uncommon. What does everyone think?

Slim I would say, the only airlines that I would have in mind that might use it would be Jetstar, Tiger and fifo based airlines.
I can only see low cost carriers operating from Busselton to keep landing and parking costs down. Whilst Qantas could maybe operate a 2-3 time weekly service for fifo workers to major mines.

Being an almost entirely leisure destination vs more business travel / FIFO for KGI/PHE/BME, i could only see a LCC flying there - Jetstar is probably most likely MEL-BQB

BQB can't even sustain daily VA services from Perth. Hard to see flights working to the east coast in near future without subsidy

Thats because its only a 2hr drive from Perth. BQB to PER is like what OOL & MCY are to BNE and NTL is to SYD

Thanks for geography... but, yes I've been there and I've had the VA flight from PER to BQB cancelled due to low bookings (as far as I was told)... which was a pain for my connecting flight from Syd. Newy to Sydney actually has flights.
Noting the target market for Margaret river tourism region, would be interested to see if a LCC could work in that market. But again, would think it would need subsidy to start with.
Not aware of any WA destination served directly from the east coast which isn't served from Perth.

Newy (NTL) to Sydney is not served by any of the majors - just Rex.
NTL-MEL has 3.5 JQ, 1 VA
NTL-BNE has 3 JQ, 2 VA, 3 QF
However - population of Newcstle/ Central Coast is about 20x that of Bussleton

Vrigin had already has an in principle agreement for daily flights from busselton to the east coast.
Both qantas and virgin want to fly to Busselton but the airport cant accommodate a 737 or larger
