I was looking to take my family on a holiday overseas for under 1500 hundred per person. I like beaches and sight-seeing.

From personal experience I recommend:

-Hawaii ; Honolulu ;maui

- Indonesia; Lombok, Phuket, Bali

-New Zealand (no beaches but wonderful place) I recommend.. Queenstown.

Other tropical places include; Hamilton Island, Fiji, Vanuatu and a hidden Gem in New Caledonia.

In Hawaii your want to stay close to Waikiki beach so I recommend Hilton. In bali I like the looks of the grand  mirage resort. Safe travels.

Is your budget still $4000 for a week, 2 rooms?

East or West Coast = Fiji or Bali. You'll get a reasonable hotel + flights in both spots for that kind of cash. Bali probably has more "sight seeing" opportunity.  Staycation in Tassie if you're in the East? Lots to see there.
