Are you ready to take the leap to the dark side; be rid of the safety blanket that is QFF and venture into the world of seemingly unimaginable possibilities?
You can choose to take the blue pill or the red pill...only one will show you how far the rabbit hole goes...
Do you hve any Credit cards that you can link to a Frequent Flyer account? IF you fly Qantas, your answer should be simple, but perhaps you want to experience Virgin?
Your question is a touch open ended, how long is a piece of string?

Best airline to get status with? I have about 40-50 hours of travel per year to see family. Thoughts?

He'll pop up under a new alias asking about Hawaii again!

Well Jetstar you need to pay for the Plus packs and could earn on Qantas or Emirates.
On Qantas you could earn on any oneworld program plus Emirates, but on the cheapest fares would likely earn more on Qantas.
I suspect you are likely best on Qantas unless willing to fly with other airlines (eg. Hawaiian)

Do you travel much domestically (either for work or leisure)? If so, do you have a preference between Qantas and Virgin?
