Velocity Upgrade on Delta
Hi All
I'm booked on VA6551 LAX-SYD in Economy and remembered reading that Silver Velocity members can request a complimentary upgrade to Comfort+ 24hrs prior to departure. Has anyone done this? I'm wondering how likely I am to score an upgrade, and if I just head to the My Booking part of the Delta website to make the request?

Hello,
It all depends on how busy the flight is. Keep monitoring the flight routinely by checking the seat map on the delta website. If there is still a comfort plus seat available 24 hours prior, I would snatch it up as soon as its 24 hours before departure. And you can do it easily on the delta website. Just make sure your velocity number has been entered when on the delta website and you'll be able to select your seat.
If the flight is looking full, you may have a slim chance at a comfort plus seat due to complimentary upgrades allowed for Golds and Platinums 72 hours prior. And given that this is a very premium route and the red eye leg, passengers are more likely to pay for the seats ahead of time.
If its really worth it to you, Id go ahead and purchase one of the seats to be on the safe side. I haven't flown on this route with Delta as I fly on VA metal where possible. As a VA Platinum, I have tried to secure a comfort plus seat on other DL long haul flights from LAX and I have only been able to get middle seats and that was 3 days prior.
