Taken from the Virgin Australia website

"If you’re a Velocity member travelling in an eligible fare class, you can upgrade on Virgin Australia domestic or international short haul flights, plus Gold and Platinum members can upgrade on Virgin Australia international long haul flights".

Unfortunately, I don't think that includes flights operated by Sinagpore Airlines with VA code, even if you've purchased the ticket through Virgin Australia.

Hi Gravity, the rule for both major Australian carriers is that in order to upgrade with their  points you need to be flying on their metal and on a ticket with their code.

You can transfer your Velocity points into SQ's Kris Flyer . Of course you need to set up a Kris Flyer account  and when you do the transfer I think you lose arounr 35% in transfer costs. Once transferred you can then use the points for any available upgrade thats on offer.

I have done this and it works well although the points loss is quite a few .

The link below sets out how to do it.

This was my first thought too, but does it work if the seat is booked through VA?

I've never tried, only with direct SQ bookings.

If its an SQ flight number you should be able to upgrade through KF, if it s VA flight number (ie codeshare) you will not.

I am fairly sure any upgrade would have to be done on the SQ web site and not VA. That should not present any problem unless the booking has already been made. Just do the booking with SQ after the transfer. No need to make any booking with VA if it's only Perth- Singapore sectors , that's what I have done .
