Up to personal preference, for some the upper deck is too clostrophobic and others really like being tucked away in a 'little bit of paradise' far far away from Y pax
the upper deck is great if you are fine with it being a little bit small. it kind of feels like a private jet. you are also away from screaming babys in y.
Upper deck requires you to take the stairs to secluded 18 seats, but only has 1 toilet. I would say its quieter upstairs, but downstairs has an easily accessible large wardrobe in the very front nose. Both are good, with preferences going to row 1 downstairs or 11 upstairs

I am travelling to HK on a Qantas 747. Is business class in the main cabin(where first usually is) at the front as good as the upper deck?

Nothing beats the unique experience of sitting in the nose of a B747, further forward than even the pilots.
