Hi
I booked a trip on my Bankwest Qantas MasterCard to activate the travel insurance. If I now cancel and close down my credit card does the insurance remain open?

Read the Ts & Cs associated with your Credit Card Insurance. Usually no it won't remain in place as you need to be a cardholder when travelling.

For my AMEX, it remains valid (see below) trying to find out for my Bankwest card, no one will answer me. The t&cs aren't clear. It says nothing about how the insurance is deactivated

Dear
Thank you for your email.
As long as you were able to purchase the round trip tickets before the card was cancelled, then there won't be any problems.
Please do not hesitate to contact us at 1800 236 023 and we are open from 8:00AM to 8:00PMSydney Time should you require further assistance.
Warm Regards,
Liv C.

I would say once the account is closed the insurance is forfited, only because of the following in the T&C
"eligible credit card account"
means a current and valid eligible credit card
with a credit facility provided by Bankwest to which purchases made by
cardholders are charged.

Is this a serious thread. What kind of person would risk this situation? What are you going to do if you are injured and they decline to evacuate you. how are you going to make them?

I am a bit of risk taker :)
I've emailed Bankwest/Allianz and will get a formal response
i want to cancel my AMEX card as my annual fee is $450, I don't want to get hit with that fee again.
