Need 60 SC points by end of the month to retain silver. I'm already a Qantas Club member...trying to decide whether worth the expense of a business class to Melb this weekend or drop to bronze (need to go so could just get cheap economy). Looks like benefits of Silver aren't that great with QC already. More benefits if traveling overseas?

Hardly any benefits with Silver, not much offerings. I would just retain Bronze if you have QC membership already

Agreed.
Also, what are "SC points"?

Agree. Better off just keeping QF.. If you were 60 SC off Gold, different matter.

Yeh how often in the next year are you going to travel with partner airlines on the oneworld network?

Silver is nothing status in Qantas anyway, as you are a QC member your lounge access is assured so the token entry sent with Silver is not an issue. I am always fascinated by the Silver status and how Qantas have managed to leverage it to the point where people are prepared to spend money to keep it, it is worthless. You have to triple your travel to reach Gold which is a stretch for many, at least with Virgin you only have to double your travel to obtain Gold.

mbroad,
You're better off putting that money towards your QC membership renewal. Silver/OW Ruby is a non-status.

Silver will put you ahead of NB pax if you are planning on travelling and looking to upgrade. Priority check in at Business Class check in is a nice perka also.

Thanks all. Thats the way I've been thinking. I had a big year of travel in 2013 and was Gold. After that was a bit quiet on the travel front and ended up Silver so had to pony up the cash to get QC.
Thinking will save my cash and put it towards more travel next year. At least that way it will be more fun getting the points and may tick into silver pretty quickly on the way up.
