I've just got back from an Emirates A380 Business class trip and found the on board bar and snacks wonderful, on United's new 787's from Melbourne to LAX do they have an area where you can help yourself to drinks/snacks in addition to what will be served in my Business class seat.

I don't think they do. EK's bar is a one of a kind service and yes there are a few other airlines like QR, EY, VA and some who have put seating in the front of the upperdeck on the A380 (like QF) but apart from that most aircraft don't have a bar and yes some would say it would be great to get one on every but space is a big thing when your on smaller long haul aircraft like the 787, A330 etc.

I'm afraid not, UA don't have a bar on board.

No bar on board but they do offer a range of inflight snacks in their international premium classes, which can be brought to you on demand, along with a drink. Not quite a bar, but better than nothing at all.

While United doesn't have a proper bar on its 787s, they do set up somewhat of a snacks counter at the front of the first row of BusinessFirst (business class) which had chips and sandwiches on my flight in August. Drinks were all from the crew, though.
(There are two BusinessFirst cabins – you'll find the snacks up the very front of the one closest to the front of the aircraft.)
