1. It's Emirates.
2. What have you heard?
3. What class will you be travelling? It's really only "shocking" in economy in terms of the 3-4-3 layout.

If you think the seats in domestic Y around Australia are too narrow... then the 3-4-3 layout on EK's 777 will be murder.

The seats definately feel exceptionally shorter and knees touch the seat in front for 13+ hours..........for a smaller person it would be fine.....although it is bearable, and convenient!

I've done the Emirates 777 from Melbourne to KL then to Dubai then to Frankfurt. What a shocker in economy, the only spot to be in economy is down the very back last few rows where the seats narrow down to just 2 seats, the extra space in the isle there is magic, breathing space, otherwise clostraphobic. On long haul 777's the 10 across in economy is not a good look.

Space is tight, F&B poor, service distinctly lacking. Other than that it's fantastic!

Thanks everyone. Looks like it's one of the big diadvantages of moving to S.A. We did N.Z on kiwi QF and I don't think we could cope with another 10+hrs. We'll skip over to SYD and get QF1

Or QF9 from MEL which has an early morning arrival time in DXB compared to QF1 which gets in around midnight.
Or another option may be an Emirates A380 from PER/MEL/SYD which have a little more space than the 777s (although other issues around F&B/service remain)

Have to agree with all above...the 777 at 10 abreast is the pits. I actively avoid flights that have Y in that configuration.

Thanks again everyone - all good ideas, we will avoid the EK 777 (y) at all costs. Have just booked QF from ADL and SYD to Barcelona via a stopover in Dubai for just 30 bucks more than the EK flights from ADL. Surely there might be a safety issue with 10 wide?
