Hi, I'm new to this site. I'm a US-based AA EXP and am hoping to burn some upgrades on the new LAX-SYD flight. I need to travel from SYD-LAX in Feb and back to SYD in August and am wondering which days of week/times of month will give me the best odds. Flights look wide open right now but all upgrades getting waitlisted. I know this is a new route, but based on patterns from Qantas, Virgin, United are there certain days to avoid in each direction?
I'm hoping the ozzies on here can give me some advice since I didn't get much on Flyertalk
General answer is whenever is less business travelers and less travelers in general. So you have to avoid Mondays because many flying for business and you better avoid school holidays because many flying for holidays. Otherwise good luck.
