But it's a Qantas lounge right. No different from the domestic terminal situation in Sydney - although they are closer.

I don't get the issue here. You are flying to LCC off-shoot of the full service airline. I think that you should be thankful that you get QC access when flying jetstar if from a terminal that they both fly from. I don't believe you get that benefit if flying say Tiger (with VA) or Scoot (with SQ) right? If you want access to the lounge, then fly Qantas. In fact, I don't feel that this is Qantas' concern at all. Perhaps you should be attacking Jetstar for not having their own lounge?

I think the issue may arise when one purchases a Qantas ticket but has no choice but to fly on Jetstar, when Qantas does not operate that route.
The onus is on Qantas to provide sufficient transparency prior to, during and subsequent to the booking process that the flight is operated by Jetstar and leaves from a different terminal.
If there is sufficient clarity, then decisions made and resulting consequences lay entirely with customers.

As a life Qantas club member I always purchase my ticket through a Qantas site on line .jetstar has more flights to Hobart or Launceston from Melbourne and as I have been taking 4 flights a month lately I have always used the lounge prior to flights to relax and have breakfast especially early flights . The service of the lounge has been removed so I was having a grouch. So I will have to change my schedule accordingly

I think the OP is suggesting they are flying a route that QF don't operate, so have no choice.
Like many things with JQ, lounge access is offered, its just really inconvenient and inefficient.

Qantas own Jetstar, one is a full service airline, one is a no frills airline. I think anyone utilising the Qantas lounge at Terminal 1 then rushing over to terminal 4, with no boarding announcements nor TV monitor in lounge displaying Jetstar flights, you would have to be very game indeed. Can't see Qantas installing a lounge in Terminal 4, that jus wont happen. Infact, I think it's just how they designed it to be.

I agree - if anything it might help capacity issues within the lounge in Melbourne. I think JQ pax have long exploited QF benefits and has blurred the lines between the two airlines. If anything it could see a bit of a shift to VA on more leisure markets for those who hold tier with both programs

I feel sorry for you Merc. Some of us flying from regional towns where there are no qantas services, just jetstar, yet manage to obtain Gold or similarn just by flying jetstar, but never end up using facilities like the lounge etc. When i fly back to sunshine coast from sydney, i used to use the lounge at T2 in sydney but that is also gone now.
