I am about to lose a large number of Qatar Miles. Does anyone know how to keep these? Evidently even if you book and travel before the expiration time they still won't accrue and you can't use them for purchases unless you are in Doha. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I dont know about Qatar but in the past with other ME airlines when I had miles about to expire I spent them in the airlines online store. I see that you say you can only spend them on Doha but it may be worth double checking as both Etihad and emirated deliver to AU. Not an eficient way of using them but better than nothing.
US$0.015 per mile for 12 months, unless Qatar decided to update since I checked. (http://www.ausbt.com.au/qatar-airways-privilege-club-the-unofficial-guide)
I don't recall reading about an alternative to this for extending miles from Qatar, unfortunately.
Thanks for the answers. Their 'shop' is only usable inside the airport at Doha. Betterbub yes you are correct they do not extend their miles apart from paying to do so.
Looks like I will be booking lots of trips on their partner airlines as a way to use the points if I cna obtain vailability.
I have contacted Qatar Priviledge Club and booked domestic Qantas flights with my expiring points. However the service response is haphazard (5 days to reply) and you cannot it seems choose your flights from available options only what they give you. They then ask you to contact a service centre to pay the relevant taxes etc but all of their offices listed are overseas!!! When I ring the Melbourne office is just rings out ( tried 3 times in a week) Any ideas or suggestionswould be appreciated.I will on this basis not credit any points to Qatar in future. All will be directed to partner airlines despite the downgrading of status and credits.
