Melbourne Herald Sun today had a story on Melbourne Airport new Terminal 4, 'It's disgusting - too far to walk', exhausted passengers pictured sitting on the floor, claiming no seats to sit on and a 2km walk to the plane from the drop off point. Terminal cost 400Million and no travelators. No frills apparently means nasty. Airport blaming the airlines for lack of facilities. People claim this will have affect in the choice of their next flights. Any comments.

It was designed as a cheap terminal for the LCCs..
You get what you pay for.

You're right! you get what you pay for on an extremely heavy unionised site. $50 Mil for the terminal, $350 Mil for labour.

I'm kinda surprised they gave the LCC's air con.

Funny enough in the Herald Sun today are heaps of readers comments, (most not good) one says the air con isn't very good either (Grin).

Take note, Jetstar. I'm a fairly regular flyer and I won't be using JQ between Hobart and Melbourne while they're in that pathetic excuse for a terminal. I understand LCC have certain needs, but T4 is ridiculous.

I believe Jetsar is the full 2km hike from drop off, Rex and Tiger are closer to civilization.

I wonder if the LCC's undercover carparking costs are the same as the main airport undercover parking costs.

They state 'such things like travelators are ultimately up to the Airlines' quoted Carly Dixon.

Perhaps LCC's Jetstar, Rex and Tiger could chip in for a travelator or two, maybe with a gold coin operation slot, otherwise with such a tardy service the passengers might be better to keep walking to their final desitinations.

The distance from security -> gate is actually very similar for Jetstar at T4 than it was a T1. It's just now it's a boring desd-straght line walk as opposed to walking through the Qantas terminal that makes it feel like it's a lot further.

2km walk... are we really that obese that this is a problem?

Funny I never hear people complaining about "the huge walk" when walking around chadstone shopping center, it's a budget airline with budget facilities, nothing stopping the people who are elderly or can't walk long distances requesting a wheelchair, lack of seating that can be a valid point and easily fixed. Otherwise if you don't like it pay more and fly qantas or virgin.
