Hi All. I'm flying from Sydney to New Orleans, via Dallas Fort Worth (QF to DFW, then AA to NOLA). Do I have to collect my luggage and go through immigration at DFW, and then check in again for the AA flight?

Yes and yes.

As eminere says yes and yes. However the airport is not bad and the self serve immigration counters efficient and user friendly.
One word of caution, the aa checkin girls on the return leg can be officious at best and make sure they put a priority tag on for the return, if you are entitled, as they will be checked through to sydney and the girls in the US often forget, or don't care, unless reminded.
The american express lounge is by far the best ( much more so than the QF first lounge which is a joke!) for the return

You always have to collect bags when entering the US. It's easy though, just grab your bags and follow the transit signs, you dont have to drag them far.

if you have the onward AA boarding pass, then yes and no. otherwise yes and yes.
exit customs, and if your bag is tagged onwards, give it to them immediately to roll off on the transfer belt.
if bag not tagged and/or you need a boarding pass, the checkin desk is directly past the bag belt.
then proceed upstairs to security. if you have pre-check, walk down to the next checkpoint. the one directly above customs doesn't have it.

Thank you all for your comments. I have 2 hours transit time in DFW. Fortunately flying on business for work. So hopefully bags will be tagged to come out earlier rather than later.
