Dummy Skyscanner return ECONOMY booking CNS-HKG Finnair (assume codeshare with Cathay, but Skyscanner says operated by Finnair) 22/05 return 4/06, $8214. WTF? Do airlines even have direct flights from point A to point B that are in that fare bucket in Economy?

WTF indeed! Cathay site shows $927 restricted, $1295 flex and $2313 premium per person return for those dates.

Why bother with these third rate sites?
Use the Matrix Airfare Search and book directly with the airline.

A valid point TRB, I do tend to book directly with airlines, but often when I am looking at flying a route that I am unfamiliar with, it is handy to use such a site to get an idea of which airlines fly between ports so I can then look at specific airlines' sites. You may be blessed with the knowledge of every airline that flies between every city, but i figure getting an idea of who flies where could save me some time.

Here's a tip. Wiki the airport that you're looking for and search the destination listing. That will give you a list of the airlines and the non-stop destinations available from that airport.

Another way to do that is to look up the 3 letter airport code on Wiki. This will list where flights from an airport go to on which carriers, and it only lists direct flights. For example, the CNS airport entry on Wiki will show flights by Cathay to HKG.

I just went onto Skyscanner and did the same search out of curiosity, the Finnair fare says operated by CX?
The fare does say $8214 though which is ridiculous. Maybe you get to have half of the Y cabin all for yourself with that ticket LOL.

The Matrix Airfare search is showing Cathay at $8000 too! Skyscanner shows $818. Go figure! I still haven'y found mt one favourite airfare search engine.
