I am looking to travel to France ( need to get to LYS) In June with family of 4 a little last minute due to recent family illness. I want to book to J award tickets and pay for 2 J tickets. There is nothing available to me at the moment ( I am qff gold, but will become P in march), have looked via cdg, man, lhr. Is it worthwhile waiting to see if CX, QF, EK etc release more award seats nearer to departure, and with my new status. Or should I book us all in economy and suck it up for 24 hours. I only want to go for 10 days, and return to work the day after my return, so J would make a huge difference!

I was successful at getting 2 J award seats to LAX around 4 months out for early July (2 years ago). Not sure if there is a difference in what is offered online between P and G, but I think you will get through on the phone quicker and can sometimes be offered flights that don't appear online. I would be calling as soon as you are P, frequently.

Dont know where you're flying from, but we had a similar quandry last year. Getting anything out of Perth was hopeless but about a week before, I looked on QF for flights from SIN, and found 2XJ seats SIN-DXB-DUS available. So we hooked up with a quick Scoot flight from PER-SIN. Most of the ME airlines fly direct from their hubs into the smaller airports in Europe such as Lyon, so why bother going via LHR? If you try on the QF site, they will force feed you to EK due to their tie-up. They will show QR as a last resort. My wife is WP, and I sure that helped. The leg from SIN to DXB was the longer, perhaps try that route then Y to France which would only be around 6-7 hours. Best of luck with that.
