Hi...need advice on transit time to allow for a SFO to MEL flight in March. Travelling on QF ticket (AA SFO to LAX). I have a transit time in LAX of 2 hours...is that enough time? Travelling Business Class and am assuming I can check bags through to MEL from SFO, but have not travelled vis LAX for many years and have heard about horrendous wait times. should I allow more time for transit?
SFO-LAX is actually a reasonably stress-free experience. Whether your bags are checked through to MEL will depend on your ticket but in the past I've been able to get AA staff to check bags from BOS-LAX-BNE on separate tickets so you'll be OK.
Once you hit LAX you'll need to walk from T4 to TBIT - it's a really quick walk and security for premium passengers in TBIT is very efficient - as an example, I flew LAS-LAX-BNE in mid-Jan and from walking off the AA flight from LAS to being in the QF First lounge was around 20mins.
Honestly, if you're travelling business class back - do what ever you can to get into LAX earlier so you can spend more time in the lounge - they are worth it...
Before the direct SFO-SYD flight I used to reguarly take this route & also on separate tickets. I had no problem getting my bags checked all the way through. To avoid delays through security, unless you want the exercise, I would opt to stay airside and take the T4 to TB shuttle bus. As markpk says, spend as much time as you can in the lounge. 2 hours will be sufficient time to transit, particularly if you stay airside.

I responded to your other question as well.
