Definitely Krisflyer!
The transfer rate from Altitude to Krisflyer and Velocity are both 2:1
Costs for one-way Melbourne to London:
Velocity Business Reward: 175,000 points + ~$80 taxes
Krisflyer: 80,750 points (online 15% discount) + ~$490 taxes
Even though Krisflyer charges additional $400 on taxes, you save a whopping 94,000 points each way.

Thanks for that.
Looking at the flights now, Singapore are 'Waitlist' - have any of you had experience with selecting one of these flights and actually flying, or is it really pot luck? E.g. if I book one 'waitlist' on Singapore and one 'confirmed' on Virgin for the return, am I at risk?!
