Awhile ago, Virgin Australia flagged the introduction of 2-3 new international routes (http://www.ausbt.com.au/virgin-australia-eyes-new-international-routes).

Did any of these come to fruition?

I think Virgin Australia once flew to HKG but stopped.

I'd love to see some international expansion from them but I think they won't be flying to many premium destinations with their A330-200s (no Premium Economy, no bar for The Business, only 20 The Business seats). And so far its not surprising they've mostly flown to leisure destinations like Phuket and such, or used them on domestic routes.

Personally I think they'll only expand after they get new jets.

Re: Hong Kong, you're thinking of Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Australia's sister airline, which used to fly Sydney-Hong Kong-London.

Virgin Atlantic still flies Hong Kong-London but axed the Sydney leg a couple of years ago. :)

Ahhhh, my mistake. Sorry, I must have misremembered something from my last trip to HK (many years ago).

Given how HK is very slot-restricted and those slots wouldn't be cheap, I can't see Virgin Australia willing to go there without a larger aircraft that has a good premium load... Something of a 787-10/A350-900 size at least.

That, and/or the new runway being built, but isn't that like a decade away?

it will be a while before virgin introduces more long haul routes. for that theyll need to order either 787's, A350's or more A330's.
