They have plenty of time to firm up the options they have, and will. There's no way they intend to operate a fleet of 8.

I'd say they probably won't increase the order right now, unless they need to make a move to avoid losing production slots. We'll probably get some info on the 787-9s interiors though.
Virgin recently committed to the 737 MAX, and we may see QF do something similar to keep the pressure on them. Perhaps (speculating here) QF will order some 737-9s and put widebody-grade product in them to serve transcontinental and the PER-SIN flights? Perhaps some AKL frequencies too? Maybe certain Oceania routes? Doing so would free up some A330-200s for more Asian flights and also improve product consistency.
They've just renovated their 737-800s so I don't think they'll commit to the 737 MAX 8 just yet. If QF plan on getting some MAX 9s, they'll announce that first, before MAX 8s.
I also think QF will probably announce an A380 refurbishment sometime soon, although I don't think they'll actually do the refurbishment until the first Dreamliners arrive (to free up 747s which can be used as A380 substitutes during the refurb).
Anyway... short answer is I wouldn't expect them to announce additional 787s, but its possible.

The origanal plan was to operate a fleet of 50 across long haul and short haul. That changed in 2012 when they cancelled most of the confirmed orders.
They'll order more, but I don't expect it soon unless they need the option confirmed to avoid losing the production slot.
