I am traveling from AKL to MEL in August on Emirates in F class arriving at 740pm. I have another flight (different reservation) booked on Etihad in First Class that departs at 1010pm the same night.
I wanted to be sure I have enough time to transit to make my flight in time. I will have no checked baggage to claim and will already be checked in online so hoping just to go to the transit area (connecting international to international). Also I am a US citizen if that makes a difference.....Should I have enough time for transit??? Any help or info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
You should have heaps of time. Being a US citizen will make no difference too! Only thing I would do is to try to link the two reservations, so Etihad know you are arriving into MEL on the EK flight, just in case EK is running late.
Ask politely at registration if they can check your bags in AKL to your final destination. You flying in First, so they should be cooperative. So if it technically possible (fail to see why not), then you will enjoy 2.5 hr in lounge.
As Richard Brown says your only issue will be a late arrival of the EK flight - if everything is on time you have heaps of time to transit in Melbourne - especially with hand luggage only - you may want to consider checking in online for the flights to cut this time out of your transit also.
Luckily EK departures in the main, out of Auckland are on time, as the planes have around 4-5 hours on the ground at AKL before returning to OZ/Dubai. Online check-in for Etihad in NZ will avoid a visit to the transit desk in MEL too.
Good to know! So I would just head to the transiting area once I arrive in MEL?? Then to my gate for my etihad flight? (I will also then have them print my boarding pass rather than just on my phone (love the hard copy)
So you'll be in F on EK from AKL to MEL, transiting for 2.5 hours in the ANZ Lounge (ok not quite an EK or QF F lounge but pretty good anyway) and then flying F to Abu Dhabi...
So. Damn. Jealous.
Given you're checking in online with only cabin luggagea and 2.5 hours transit, you won't have any problems in Melbourne. But getting the bookings linked is a good idea just in case (as others have said) the EK flight is delayed and so that Etihad know where you're coming from.

Thanks for the info! I will call Etihad and have them note that on my reservation. Unfortunatley, I cannot link the two reservations. Thanks again!

Missed that. If so no problem whatsoever - all time usually spent at carousel.
