I want a direct flight from SYD to LAX business class using points only. Via qantas or virgin the return tix are approximately 1 000 000 points . Surely theres a better way? I've gone to Europe on business for wayyyy less. Does anyone know by any chance? Im still new to all this
If you are looking at not paying taxes in cash, it is going to cost you some serious points. In my opinion, it's not a good use of points.
For Qantas, it sounds like you are searching points + pay options and then choosing to pay taxes with points. You need to search for classic awards... which can be hard to come by. SYD-LAX is 96,000 points each way plus tax.
Virgin you search for award seats, I think they are around 92,000 odd points plus taxes (which will a less than QF)
this is still for awhile away (in december) however i am just plugging in fake dates in the next few months. I still havent worked out the most efficient way to get bus. class tix to LA yet ...
i tried virgin but theres never any award flights that are available? same as qantas ?
As you can appreciate, December is one of the peak times for airlines. They may reduce award seats and the ones released, would get snapped up quickly.
If this is for December, why not search the availability for December now? However I'd be surprised if there was availability.
You can try SYD-SFO, DFW or even AKL-LAX on the new AA route. Alternatively, Cathay pacific via HKG could be an option.
