Are there any rumors of Qantas partnering with UA in 2017. I was on the Qantas Website to make a booking SYD â SFO 6 Mar 17 when I viewed the Alternatives returned results were QF11 with a connection using United with a UA flight number, so not code share. Seems odd as United is SA not OW. In past searches alternatives have been with AA.

Qantas use AA/UA/VX for their internal legs to SFO. It's not a partnership as per say - just what is shown when looking at a fare display in the GDS.
They may be offering UA alternativs due to better availability and pricing to their customers.

Thanks, also I am P1 and Virgin P, am I correct to assume that if this option is selected I will not earn SC's, miles or get lounge access to United as UA flight number so not Qantas codeshare. Same for Virgin for at least lounge access, as it is not part of SA. Not sounding like a good choice.

More due to lack of AA options at SFO.. If the AS VX merger occurs then would expect more AS options (subject to the QF AS partnership continuing).
Unless a QF codeshare then no points, miles, and certainly no lounge access
