Has anyone used Crumpler's vis a vis cases? Any negative or positive comments/experiences?
My Samsonite Cosmolite recently failed on me. Wheel came off a 5 month old case! This was the second Samsonite that failed in under 12 months, Firelite was the previous model that failed after 3 months (tear in the rubber zipper thingy).
I recently borrowed one. It was a great quality bag and I liked it, but I wouldn't buy one. Very sturdy, but so heavy I don't think it's practical as a carry on bag for flights. If going by train, or using as check in baggage, I'd get one.
Samsonite has let me down. I expected more from them. Samsonite wants me to go/send my bags to the burbs...No thanks. You've inconvenienced me enough. Myer and DJ are not interested unless you bought the Samsonite with them.
I want to be able to pop in to a store in the CBD and have them sort it out. My experience with Crumpler, when another bag was damaged was exceptional.
This episode has taught me the benefits of a cosy end-to-end customer experience.

Are you suggesting that Myer and DJ should go out of their way to help you, when you bought hte case somewhere else? I see no reason why they should help you.
Thank you Dave. You've confirmed the broken business model of Samsonite. Nothing beats having a retail presence on the high street and interfacing directly with your customer rather than through intermediaries like Myer and DJ.
I disagree. What you are comparing to is buying a Qantas ticket through an online travel agent, then having a problem and going into Flight Centre to get them to fix the problem because it is more convenient to you.Yes, both resell Qantas products, but you selected to buy from place A, and place B has zero obligation to help you in the after sales service
My wife is using one. It's a sturdy suitcase and it stands out through design. The dividers in the suitcase are not fully functional though with often smaller items falling out when you close the case. The case lacks pockets as well to store smaller things like chargers etc. I am a heavy user myself and rely on a range of Tumi products. For my extended trips I use the Tegra Lite Extended Trip packing case. The Vapor Lite Extended Trip packing case is equally good and a bit more cost friendly. Not the cheapest products around but you get good life out of them and they have an excellent warranty program.

Two of my cosmolite Samsonite pieces failed within months of purchase but they were repaired (one replaced) under warranty luckily.
