I have a refundable ticket that I need to cancel because I no longer have to travel in the beginning of July. I've been trying since Monday. I've been informed that the sales office at the airport (Sydney) closed and all ticket inquiries are handled by the call center. Here are my waiting times for the call center:
Monday - 3 hours
Tuesday - 2 hours in the morning (the system informed me that there's a callback service and offered it but gave no options for me to push my number in), 2 hours in the afternoon
Wednesday - 167 minutes.
Thursday - 127 minutes.
Today, I called the operations office of Malaysia Airlines Sydney. The lady on the phone was very understanding, she got my reservation number and said she'll see what she can do. Also gave me an email to try.
Does anyone have any experience with MH regarding ticket changes and/or cancellations?
I was in Kuala Lumpur many years ago and wanted to change a Qantas ticket. Repeated calls to the KL Qantas office went unanswered. I eventually went to the Qantas office and found the staff all sitting around chatting, with no customers and no phones in use. I leant over the reception desk and saw a red light illuminated on the switchboard. Under the red light was a label "Make Busy".
Different era and airline, but the same country and possibly still the same mentality?
Those hold times are almost as bad as Qantas. Was on hold today for over 4 hours.
What number have you been trying to call MH on? As a travel Agent I use 132627. I'm usually on hold no longer than 20 minutes but not sure if we get preferential access to bypass everyday passengers.
It's that number, that I've been trying. No luck. The email that the operations lady gave me to try does not work either. I really don't know what to do.
Given that the official channels are not working, you try going to the top. The (former?) CEO does not appear to be listed on LinkedIn, however Peter Bellew COO is, and his summary says "I can simply get things done – quickly and with no fuss.", whilst his job description says "Operationally rebuilding an iconic Asean airline brand to offer superb customer service", so he would appear to be the correct person to escalate to - https://www.linkedin.com/in/peterbellewryanair

"Operationally rebuilding an iconic Asean airline brand to offer superb customer service" - What a bloody joke.
I was able to cancel the ticket today after a long wait. Called early morning this time.
Superb customer service? No.
