Hi Martin, our latest update on this was in February 2016 when Alan Joyce (Qantas CEO), Gareth Evans (Qantas International CEO) and Kurt Stache (AA SVP) confirmed to AusBT that upgrades on AA using Qantas Points were under consideration as part of the evolving JV between the two airlines:

When will Qantas let Frequent Flyers use their points to upgrade on AA flights.

Why do you believe that AA should allow all QF Frequent Fliers use points to upgrade on AA flights?
AA already has plenty of its own frequent Fliers wait listed for upgrade pretty much on every flight.
As far as I know, OneWorld airlines normally don't offer upgrade benefits across airlines.

No updates to report since then, however.
