Best Oneworld FF scheme for earning from other Oneworld?

Ran out of space in the question - what is the best OW FF scheme for earning points from other Oneworld airline flights? E.g. from my limited knowledge Qantas over the years has reduced the points earned from non-Qantas OW flights. Is something like AA any better in this regard?

Thanks is advance.

Hi JakeDrake,

It all depends which airline you fly most frequently with, the type of cabin you fly and the type of flights (long haul/short haul).

There isn't a one size fits all as each FF programme is designed for their own carrier in mind with built in bias to modify a frequent flyer purchasing behaviour.

What I suggest you do is define the typical types of flights/destinations that you would do in any given year.

Based on that, identify the potential for earning miles/points/avios under a selection of FF programmes (select a few and use QFF as a control)

It is also important for you to identify your objective for membership of FF programmes; are you looking for status? Or are upgrades and/or redemptions more important to you?

Lastly, whatever miles/points/avios you earn is only as good as the value obtained in redeeming them. 100,000 QFF point does not have the same value as 100,000 Aadvantage miles. Nor is it's value the same as 100,000 BA Avios. The key is to identify the level of utility of each mile/point/avios earned with respect to it's purchasing power. I don't want to bore you with too much detail but I've got a whole spreadsheet I can share with you if you're interested.

TRB are you able to upload that to google drive (or what ever you use) and share the link.

It would be great to see your hard work and it might help many on this site.

Thanks TRB, it would be great to see that spreadsheet. Redemptions are the most important to me. I am currently with QFF and earn a lot of points from credit card spend but the flights I take will be increasing to the following per year  (all J class) so am wondering if QFF is still the best for earning from OW flights:

1 x AU to USA return, 2 x AU to Asia return, 2 x AU to Europe return

I don't have a particular airline preference for the flights (althouigh price is a factor) and am restricting the analysis to OW at this point.

Qantas has really only reduced points on what I would call 'competing routes'. eg. CX/MH to Europe.

AA has also recently drastically increased 'burn' rates, although in many respects remains better.

As TRB says it is a VERY complex equation and you need to carefully consider your own position

The main reasons I stay with QF are - only way to upgrade on QF sectors, access to AA clubs when on domestic US Itins, bonuses on QF sectors which remains my main airline, lounge access when on EK/JQ flights and top of the queue for the very ocassional op-up, although I have at times dabbled with the AA program
