Hi All, hoping for some suggestions on meeting Velocity Gold crtieria. I have achieved the status (via partner airlines flights - SQ / EY) but have not completed the required VA flights (I've only done one of four). I currently live in Singapore but fly to Australia (MEL) often with QF and SQ.
Any suggestions on the cheapest / easiest way to get the additional flights? I have considered SQ / QF to PER then VA to Melbourne however the flight times are not the greatest and it is considerably more expensive than direct.
You could consider buying a return from Australia to Singapore with Virgin (code shared with SQ) and then a return from Singapore to Australia (with whoever you want to fly with) to cover 2 return trips in total. E.g. lets say you need to get to Melbourne on 1st Aug and back on 7th and again from 1st Sep and back in 7th Sep. You could do the following: Buy a return Sin-Mel with SQ or QF Dep 1st Aug Return 7th Sep, then buy a return with VA dep 7th Aug return 1st Sep. And also when going with VA, consider a connection on one leg ( e.g. MEL~SYD/BNE /ADL ~SIN, price difference is usually minimal ) so that you will cover 3 VA flights you need. Of course, this method a bit of planning in advance but would be economical to do it if you need to travel to Australia a couple of times anyway. Hope these all make sense:)
Just get a return ticket to Australia with VA (codeshare using SQ aircraft) and fly via a domestic port (SYD/ADL/BNE/PER/DWN) on one of the legs. That will mean 3x flights coutning towards your 'eligible sectors'. I suggest booking on the VA website, though Google Flights is also a good tool to use.
You can't book VA codedshared flights (on their website) from Singapore to Aus as return flights. You can only book it as SQ flights. That's why I made the previous suggestion as a way around it. Although you could try talking to a travel agent in Sin and they might have access to get VA coded flights through their system.
In that case I suggest using Google Flights to find a VA flight combo, record the flight numbers, and visit a travel agent or call up the VA bookings office using the quote obtained from Google.
As far as a fairly direct route goes, and maximum time on VA aircraft, I would suggest SQ to DPS, VA to MEL return. Obviously the VA component is booked with VA and the SQ booked with SQ. The downside being it's on a 737.
