with qantas changing the rules on connecting baggage with oneworld partners, does this apply to emirates as well?
i have an award flight with emirates from melbourne to colombo via singapore in 2 weeks times, but will be flying from adelaide on qantas to make the international flight. unfortunatly at the time of booking the qantas awards booking site wouldnt let me book through from adelaide, even though there was availability.
Per the article if you were to be impacted in the future by the change for those set of flights the checkin staff would tell you for your flight in 2 weeks.
Disclaimer: Im not an expert or anything and i have no idea how the changes affect QF to EK so my comments are purely going off the article above.
My understanding that there will be no changes to pax flying on one ticket. Changes will affect only those who fly on separate tickets. And FWIW Finnair (One World member) rejected to check in my baggage on second leg with Emirates and only did so after extensive arguments that ticket actually issued by Qantas, not Emirates. Emirates not a member of One World and thus you cannot expect (and could not in the past) One World member to check in baggage with them on separate ticket – Qantas is exception because they have special agreement with Emirates.
Greg, you may call Qantas and ask them to merge booking into one to avoid any problem at airport – I fail to see why they would not do it.
thanks for the tip serg, gave them a call. i was hoping to merg a paid fair with the award booking but wouldn't allow, so ended up just booking another award flight and they merged the 2 tickets for me.

Qantas is implementing the changes from 1 September.
