Morning AustBT universe, was thinking of moving some everyday spend to the Amex Platinum Edge and was wondering peoples thoughts on transfering points:
If I prefer to hoard my points with Velocity (VA), is it more advisable to transfer from MR to SQ and then to VA or straight from MR to VA?

As the conversion rates from AMEX MR to both Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia are at the same ratio (1:1), you'll want to send your points directly to the airline of your choice.
Converting points between Velocity and KrisFlyer occurs at a 1.35:1 ratio, so if you sent 10,000 AMEX MR points to SQ and then converted to Velocity, you'd wind up with ~7,407 Velocity points.
Convert those 10,000 MR points straight to Velocity and you'd have 10,000 Velocity points.

Why would you bother? You would be losing out. MR to SQ is 1:1, then SQ to VA is 1.35:1. MR to VA directly is 1:1. As an example:
10,000 MR to VA is 10,000 VA points.
10,000 MR to SQ is 10,000 SQ points, 10,000 SQ to VA is 7,407 VA points.

Looks like we replied with the same thought at the same time. Love your thinking, natch! :)
