I'm looking at a ticket form MEL to HNL, (probably with a few days in Maui (OGG) in the middle) and wanted to see what the AustBT universe thought about Qantas Economy (i have a QC membership, so get some goodies,) vs. JetStar StarClass?
JQ is direct so has that as an important bonus, but has a less convenient schedule. QF does mean you have to transit through SYD, but it's a full service airline.
Just as a side note, Jetstar don't call it 'Starclass' anymore. But if you're going Jetstar Business Class, does QF being a full service airline matter? You'll be provided with everything in Jetstar J class that you would on QF Y class plus some extras (express pass arrivals AUS, noise cancelling headsets, more legroom and bigger seat etc)
JQ all the way (the only negative is they don't have priority baggage). Food, seat, IFE screen size all better than QF Y.. pay for the Max pack and get a bunch of SCs and points as well.
Took JQ3 recently - landed early and was first through US customs. Bag took half an hour (about halfway in the pack), otherwise a great experience for the price
FWIW (and I use both many times) Jeststar Business is far far better than QF economy. And I mean by huge margin. Especiallt when they have sales and QF economy became even more expensive. Biggest downside of Jetstar is mediocre and at times plainly inedible food, though booze usually fine, but my main criteria not food or IFE, but comfort of seat. So if you after better pre-packed and re-heated food or one more channel on IFE you may prefer QF.

Thanks for that @AKLrunway! I didn't think about that. When did they start offering express passes?
